Council to stage special session on SHS re-do project

STRATFORD — The Town Council will conduct a special meeting on Thursday, Feb. 18, beginning at 7 p.m. in which Board of Education and other officials will bring the council up-to-date on the status of the renovations at Stratford High School.

The public meeting, officially billed as a workshop, will take place in the SHS auditorium. The design work for the $126 million project is well underway and construction, which will take place in eight distinct phases, will begin in December and continue through mid-2019.

Earlier this month the council approved $65 million in bonding for the project, which many say is long overdue; it’s anticipated that about $73 million of the cost will come from state grants. Stratford High, the home of the Red Devils, was constructed 91 years ago.
